Sale Art Circle 'Animal Headed Watercolorists'

The following pictures were from todays' Art Circle Day with a concentration on watercolors. We all had the bird and flowers to paint but I also did a couple of group topic pieces. Occasionally I like to transform my human subjects into animals

Sunday Art Group Sketches, August, 2023

I enjoy using a loose line technique when I sketch from life. When I draw on trains and in waiting rooms I have to be quick as the subject can move any moment. With an arranged sketch subject I have more time, usually between ten and twenty minutes. I still like the quick sketch approach.

On this occasion I drew with colored pencils and gel pen and then added further gel pen lines.

After scanning this one I decided to see what a sepia tint would look like.
                                                                  The original colors

This one also got a digital tint.

I usually include at least one drawing in my lined diary, mainly because I vowed to keep a visual record, day by day and there are the dates demanding I do something for that day. In reality I don't draw in it every day and tend to cut out those pages, which makes the diary skinny and less weighty for carrying, not always a small matter if I am travelling with a backpack! My main occasions for drawing are once a month portrait art group, waiting rooms, holidays and travel. Sometimes my cat, Chloe asks for her portrait to be done, so she gets in there too.

The picture below was actually one drawing but I could not get both pages on the scanner.

These are not intended as caricatures, but I do tend to zero straight into a feature that stands out, often the nose or the hair. I generally don't draw an overall outline first but just visulize it. Sometimes this is a disadvantage, and the proportions are off. Other times it adds to spontaneity.
